2009 Ice Dancing |
||
![]() |
This carving stood eleven feet tall. We began by adding three feet to the top of the 8 foot block
of snow. Carving was great to begin with, but as the event wore on it grew warm and adjustments had to be made in the plans. Our adjustments proved futile
when her arms fell off. The weather continued to get warmer and two days after the carving was finished most of the carvings in the park
fell. Heidi Favet, and Barb Van Hauer |

2007 Elephant Fun |
||
![]() |
Our elephant stood nine feet tall. It was a bitter cold year for carving averaging 30 below. The cold made the snow exceptional, but staying warm
a more of a challenge. In sub zero temperatures the snow becomes like sand in the
snow blocks which allows for more detailing. ![]() Elephant Carvers: Nancy Scheibe, Stephanie Bish, and Heidi Favet (not pictured) |

2006 Hippo On Ice |
||
![]() |
This carving stood eight feet tall. There was a lot of laughter as the hippo came to life. The weather was moderate and the snow perfect. Heidi and Alanna joined us this year to carve. | ![]() Hippo Carvers: Heidi Favet, Nancy Scheibe, Stephanie Bish and Alanna Dore |
2005 Pelican |
||
![]() |
The pelican stood eight feet tall. It was a tough year for carving. The weather turned warm and the snow became mush. Many of the carvings in the park fell, or parts fell off right away and new carvings had to be created from what was left. At times carvers were standing in water while they carved. This carving was originally titled "Got Ya" and had a fish hanging out of its mouth; it fell off right away. |

2004 A Snowy Ride |
||
![]() |
This carving was eight feet tall, four feet wide and sixteen feet long. The temperatures never went above 28 below this year and it was windy. The snow was exceptional, which allowed for taking risks. At one point the scarf projected three feet off the back in mid air, until Nancy leaned on it. | ![]() Carvers: Nancy and Doug Scheibe |
2003 Penguin Song |
||
![]() |
The penguins stood eight feet tall. It was Nancy’s first year as a professional carver. The weather and snow was good. As we carved we discovered a crack running through the neck of the mother penguin so the position of her head had to be changed. Originally she was to be singing up into the heavens just like the papa penguin. To support her head we chose to have her kissing her little one. | ![]() Carvers: Nancy Scheibe, Jolie Ensign, with some help from LeDoux (in picture on left) |
2002 Snow Balls |
|
![]() |
To receive and invitation to be a professional snow carver one must first win the amateur contest. Each contestant is given a foot block of snow to work with. Nancy won her invitation to join the professional carvers with this monkey holding snowballs. She is pictured with her daughter Naomi. |
