Personal Statement

"I believe self expression is essential for a full life. Expressions of thoughts, feelings and impressions provide opportunities to communicate, heal, learn, connect with each other, connect with our own spirits and experience joy. It is my hope my work touches your heart, challenges you to think or see things from a new perspective or simply brings a smile to your face."

Background

Nancy Scheibe was born in Minneapolis, Minnesota in 1954. She was the third of eight children. Her interest in art began early and was encouraged by her mother, Myrtle, who died when Nancy was 11. She graduated high school and attended the School of the Associated Arts for one semester to study art. Due to economic pressures she transferred to a community college and art became a vocation while she raised her three children. She continued drawing, painting and sculpting, and is primarily self taught. When opportunities presented themselves to study art she took advantage of them, which included a few classes at Atelier Lack School of Art in Minneapolis where she polished her technical skills.

Nancy acquired a Bachelors Degree in Communication and Counseling Psychology at Metro State University in St. Paul. She used her artwork to heal from an abusive relationship, then combined it with her counseling background and wrote her first book Women’s Experience Coloring book: A Playful Journey In Healing and Hope.

In 2004, turning 50 began a new page in her life. She began her expedition kayaking down the Mississippi to gather women’s wisdom. She divided the river into five sections and is writing about her experiences.

She and her husband opened a coffee shop and café in Ely, Minnesota where she and Doug live in the woods.
